CAVECam #104 "Al-Balad-Screen-Bottles-DA" Revision number: 8 Revision date: 2019-05-07 13:25:17 (UTC-0700) Captured by: Tom DeFanti, UCSD while at KAUST in Saudi Arabia Rendered by: Dick Ainsworth -- VR rendering with Adobe Lightroom to adjust exposure and extend dynamic range, stitching in PTGui, and final adjustments in Photoshop. The exposure is ideal for the areas of interest, but lacking in highlights overall. I used extreme measures to create enough highlight detail to complete the outlines of the buildings in direct sunlight. Concentrating on highlight recovery in Lightroom allowed these modifications without affecting the perfect light balance in the main portion of the image. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Balad,_Jeddah This back street in Al-Balad is typical (in 2012). Note the elaborate carved wood structures over the windows that are used to capture the sea breezes and vent the heat from the housing, although now they often sprout window-style air conditioners.
